The Amazon bit, in plain terms

BarWeight is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We are paid a percentage of qualifying purchases. Amazon pays 3% in the category this equipment sits in, which works out to a few dollars on a rack. That is the whole business model.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

What we will never do

This site is a calculator first. The fastest way to wreck it is to start making things up to sell something, so here is what is off the table, permanently:

• No prices. We do not display a price anywhere. Prices go stale within hours and a stale price is a false claim. Amazon’s own terms restrict displaying them too.
• No star ratings and no review counts. Same reason.
• No pretending we tested anything. We have not put a bar in our hands and told you how the knurl feels. Every spec on this site is copied from a manufacturer page or the retail listing itself, and the source is linked on the record.
• No stock or delivery promises. We read the listing on one day. It changes.
• No invented awards. Nothing here is “#1” or “best” because someone paid for it.
• No product photos we are not licensed to use. Where you see a typographic panel instead of a photo, that is deliberate. We could not obtain permission to publish a photo of that exact model, so we show none rather than showing you a similar-looking product. A wrong photo is worse than no photo.

How a product ends up on this site

There are 180 products with a link on BarWeight. Every one of them was put there the same way: someone opened the actual product page, read the ASIN, the exact product title and the specs off the live page, and recorded the date. If a page could not be opened and read, the product did not get a link. There is no automated feed filling this site with whatever pays most.

You will also find equipment on this site with no buy link at all — several Rogue Fitness pieces, for instance. They are here because they are the right reference point for the spec, and we would rather show you the right bar with no link than the wrong bar with one.

Does the commission change what we recommend?

It has not so far, and the structure of the site is the safeguard: the calculators contain the answers, and the answers do not depend on any product. Where we do point at gear, every card carries a “skip if” line telling you who should not buy it. That line is there because a recommendation with no downside is an advert.

Other programs

Amazon is currently the only affiliate program BarWeight participates in. If that changes, this page changes with it, before any link goes live.
